New Leaders delivered a 4-day program at the Nederland High
School in cooperation with TEENS, Inc. and the Chinook West Program. Twenty
teens participated in this program that included experiential exercises, process
work and activities to stimulate the development of the leader in each of the
participants. The four days included outdoor experiences and challenges that
provide learning through the body.
One of the outcomes of the New Leaders programs is the
opportunity for teens to develop "projects" that continue beyond the four-day
course. In the past, projects have included the creation of video documentaries
and developing recycling programs for school and local community. The director
provided this feedback:
The lessons that came from New Leaders workshop,
regardless of the level of project completion, are real, tangible and still
within reach if the students would like. We discussed all of this at our
closing circle and encouraged the students to keep working towards success.
This year many contacts were made in order to start these projects. We
explained that these were open doors and opportunities for future growth.

all and, at the least, will let you know that you did help make a difference
in the students at Chinook West. Read more from Mike Wight, Academic
