1) How do I sign up for one of the events?
Simply complete the online application.

2) Can I apply for the wait list?
Yes, the same process applies. You will be notified as soon as we know if space has become available. Typically, we will know prior to the week before the event.

3) Tell me more about New Leadership
New Leadership is characterized by words such as: co-active, empowering, collaborative, participatory, dynamic, open, fluid, creative, leads by example, enrolling, listening, relationship, flexibility.

These attributes point to a type of leadership where force is not wielded to dominate, rather power is demonstrated in actions, words and presence. Power that invites participation in the cause that is at hand. A New Leader does not always lead from the front. Learn more by reading an essay on New Leadership.

4) What is meant by New Leadership for Youth?
There is important work to be done to effectively support and nurture the new leaders of tomorrow. New leaders will need communication and team building skills to prepare them for the future. This program is designed to teach young people how to effectively work co-actively together to accomplish what they want in life by creating outcomes that are aligned with their values.

5) Can the program be delivered at my school or institution or town?
Yes, each program is individualized and designed to fit the student population. Whether it is for an intensive 3-day course or just a workshop for one day, a New Leaders program can be right for delivery to you.

6) What is Co-activity?
Instead of struggling to do something alone or in isolation, this program delivers a new way of looking at life. The curriculum is designed to teach skills in teamwork, and forming partnerships that release the “shoulds" and the “have to's”. It allows students freedom in designing how they want to work with others.

Co-activity is the process where two or more people bring their strengths, perspectives, and experience together to create something that none of them alone can do. This co-creation is at the heart of co-activity. Through practice we learn how to be co-active throughout our life.

7) What is on-going coaching and mentoring?
It is our (intention) (hope) (goal) that the principles and learning presented in the New Leaders program make long lasting impact in the lives of our participants.

We supply a listing of available coaches and mentors to help those who require additional assistance in the processing of the learning they receive from this program.  Coaches are listed with areas of expertise, but all will have knowledge of the principles presented.

8) What is coaching?
Coaching is all about you - what you want, what you need, what you strive for, what slows you down.  It will challenge you, hold you accountable, give direction and focus, provide a sounding board, and offer support and validation. It focuses on evolving and manifesting potential and explores actions and behaviors.  Coaching is action oriented.

9) What will this do for my kids?
What we find is that kids truly have a better sense of who they are as individuals and how they impact the world. There is a sense of acceptance and gratitude in who they are and this leads to a greater sense of self-esteem and confidence.  They feel like they have purpose and more clarity and confidence in their future.

10) How does this benefit my child?
The benefits are numerous and vary from individual to individual. For some there is a new sense of self-worth and self-confidence developed. For others new skills in communication are developed and practiced.  For every participant, there is a benefit in learning that they are both unique and part of a common heritage of humanity. Every student will have the opportunity to be seen and heard as the totally valuable person they are.

11) What will I get out of this program?
As a participant you will get a chance to play with all of who you are. You will experience others and through them, learn more of yourself.  You will learn more about leading your life, your way.

12) What does coaching have to do with leadership?
Coaching is a new profession and practice that honors people as having the highest human potential. A coach assists a person to shine with that potential.  Leadership takes that philosophy further by challenging each of us to coach ourselves and the world around us. Expecting the best from ourselves and from those that surround us. A leader exhibits human potential and others want to share in that light.

13) Is this about being a student officer or other politics?
No.  New Leaders is based upon the principles of self-awareness, self-worth and authenticity.  Whether you decide to lead your life as a politician and activist (student body leadership) or as an artist, a scientist, or any number of other "roles;" you can utilize leadership skills to enhance those activities.  Many of us choose to lead in different ways that look different. What do you imagine might be your way of leading?

14) What will this cost?
The cost of a particular program varies. Multi-day programs include meals, snacks, materials and would typically be from $50 - $75 per day.  In some cases, all or part of the cost is subsidized by the sponsoring organization or other funding.  There may be scholarship opportunities available for your event as well.

15) Will this program be overwhelming?
No, in fact participants have said that they come away "energized", "jazzed up" and "excited."  This is not the kind of activity that requires a lot of preparation. It does draw you in to give your energy to "play full out", to "show up as yourself."  This can be a time when old patterns and old ways of thinking are challenged. It can have surprising impact emotionally and physically.

16) Is there studying and homework involved?
Not in the traditional sense. The only homework is in the self-discovery process that will take place in the course. Journals are often required as part of the reflective process. And at times, participants will be left with some kind of inquiry to grapple with over lunch or overnight, depending on the course length.
